Our Story


In 1997, a group of forward thinking spa professionals saw great potential for spas in Canada to compete with the best in the world.  This group, with additional support from spas, spa supply companies, and a school, recognized the need for a strong, national organization to guide and support the industry. 

On October 18, 2000, Spa Industry Association of Canada was incorporated as a not for profit corporation. In the absence of national regulation, and to level the playing field globally, these founding members and sponsors laboured diligently to develop the policies and bylaws required to operate a non-profit association.  Volunteers served on the Board of Directors and committees, and conducted the affairs of the organization. They identified Standards and Practices, Code of Ethics and other membership criteria that members today must continue to meet or exceed.  All this so that spa clients in Canada may experience some of the finest treatments in the world in a safe and hygienic environment, delivered by properly trained professionals, using high quality products. 

In 2004, the association commenced operating under the trademark name, Leading Spas of Canada, which has been, and continues to be, the public persona of our organization. 

In 2009, a talented and dedicated group of members developed a first-of-its-kind, national quality assurance program.  This unique program is a method for verifying that the quality and integrity of the services and practices provided by spas demonstrates that they merit the confidence of clients, staff, government agencies and the general public.

The Association is evolving; recognizing the need to re-define membership, and to clarify that the association includes and represents all segments of the spa industry across Canada.   SIAC-ACIS will be the inclusive network that brings together all companies and individuals involved in the spa and wellness sector. Within this inclusive network, Leading Spas of Canada and the Quality Assurance program will continue to be synonymous with the top spas in the country.   This branding exercise initiates a natural progression; enveloping and welcoming spas and schools as well as the companies who provide support, services, and products for the industry.
